Food Services Funding Campaign Begins

Day by day I’m feeling stronger, Day by day I’m lasting longer, Day by day you help me make my way…the words from a popular song in the 80′s, Day by Day.  The words express SSCOPE’s mission very well…to empower our member-employees to build and rebuild their lives through employment and a supportive system.

In step with our Promise of Better Days, Christmas Dinner fund raising campaign, SSCOPE has begun a campaign to gain support from the food industry and community members to help us develop our Food Services Enterprise.

We are accepting all donations of food products and food preparation equipment, as well of cash donations that will allow us to create a 12 month a year Food Services program that will allow to create a Catering and Food Preparation so we can provide prepared food to all those in need of nutritious food in the community.

SSCOPE’s Food Services program already owns and operates a seasonal Food Services Mobile Trailer since May, 2012, that employee members operate. The Little Food Feats trailer, as it is called, specializes in variations of Tacos in a Bag and Nachos with cheese, among many other foods, and is also available for rent with staff or booking at special functions.  The trailer was initially purchased with help from a special employment grant from the WRHA with equipment for the trailer purchased with the help of a donation from Investors Group.

We will soon announce the date when we will begin accepting expressions of interest from group residences, homes and schools to receive our prepared food on a regular basis.  We will be particularly looking for a mental health tie in but it will not be an essential requirement.

For more information or to discuss what you can possibly donate, please contact SSCOPE’s Director of Development at 987-6302 or by email: bob@sscope.org

What’s Going On These Days At SSCOPE?

SSCOPE employees on the job on the first day of SSCOPE's new 3 week construction related job on July 4th, seen here just a little drenched after some rains came to cool them down. Wescon Construction of Steinbach awarded SSCOPE the pre concrete work on a large dairy barn construction project just west of Winnipeg in the Rosser area. There is about three weeks of work in this project and it is epxected that this will lead to more construction related work for this company and others in the near future.

During the week of July 3-6 SSCOPE also supplied construction renovation labour over a four day period to our partner, Siloam Mission’s Madison Lodge project.

Meanwhile the Treasures Thrift Storeis accepting new donations daily, with a lot of new inventory in the music, clothing and furniture areas.  The generous support of Winnipegers is allowing  SSCOPE  to currently seek partners who have possible retail locations to aid in the growth of the SSCOPE Treasures Thrift Stores in other parts of Winnipeg as well.

SSCOPE’s Treasures Mobile Food Unit, continues to be out daily testing various locations in Winnipeg, finding a home for its daily offerings.  Meanwhile in the tradition of the Food Truck business everywhere the Food menu is being upgraded to draw passionate followers, and a distinctive name is being sought. Little Food Feats anyone?  Bookings for the Mobile Unit can be made by contacting SSCOPE at 987-6302 or call us with your naming suggestions.   SSCOPE continues to investigate and develop a full range of special catering and delivery services to create additional Food Services employment for its members.

SSCOPE’s Lawn Services division continues to add additional properties to it’s weekly cutting and trimming list as homeowners and building managers see the overall value and direct benefits to the communty of the SSCOPE service.  Recently a number of Manitoba Housing properties were added, plus some private properties that need maintenance while owners are away on vacation.

SSCOPE’s Property Services Snow Shoveling Divison is currently recruiting qualified Team Leaders with drivers licences for the November 1 start of the 5 month Snow Season, supporting and leading our employee members in our contract work for the City of Winnipeg and private residences and businesses.

SSCOPE Employees out on regular StreetSSCOPE patrol recently. Here they are seen on Arlington Street near Dufferin. Over 10 different SSCOPE member employees are involved in this daily work activity.
