New Board of Directors Member

SSCOPE welcomes Alvin Murdock to our 2008-2009 Board of Directors. Alvin, 30, is a student at the Asper School of Business, and of aboriginal background. He has considerable experience working in community development projects in his hometown of Norway House. SSCOPE also has two other openings on its Board to fill over the next few months. SSCOPE Supporting Christmas Tree Recycling

SSCOPE and our Worker-Members will be proudly supporting the use of real Christmas Trees again this season by offering our Christmas Tree Recycling service. SSCOPE will pick up your tree at your residence and ensure it gets recycled at the various City of Winnipeg locations. This program benefits the environment and assists SSCOPE in fundraising to assist our mental illness recovery services. SSCOPE Worker Opportunity and Form

Here is the text of the flier: ARE YOU LOOKING FOR CASUAL BUT CONSISTENT EMPLOYMENT? WANT TO GET BACK INTO THE WORKFORCE AT A PACE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH? SSCOPE has opportunities for workers, men and women, beginning this fall. SSCOPE Inc. (Self Starting Creative Opportunities for People in Employment) was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1991. We provide gainful casual employment and support for consumers of mental health and related services. We offer ongoing services to the community and have some new programs (indoor and outdoor) beginning later this year. Workers will be able to develop their own employment development plan and work with us throughout to follow through. You can work with a crew, or primarily on your own, with the help of a Support Worker. As part of our enhanced supported employment activities, we will also offer assistance and training and opportunities to work with employers in the community or assistance with self employment. SSCOPE operates primarily Monday to Friday, with the possibility of some work on weekends from time-to-time. You can participate with as little as 1.5 hours per week of work. SSCOPE Lawn Program Assessing Demand For Expanded Services

SSCOPE's lawn and yard maintenance service is one our core programs, serving over 50 customers weekly. Here we see Chris Dale, SSCOPE's operation's supervisor and Dan Desnoyers, in west Winnipeg, a SSCOPE customer for over 5 years, discussing the job after we did Dan's lawn on July 24th. Generally a crew of four works alongside the operations supervisor. SSCOPE is presently assessing the potential demand for expanding our services with a second crew or additional hours. Board of Directors and Volunteer Recruitment Now Underway

This is a recent Board of Directors and Volunteers recruitment news release. SSCOPE Inc. is a non profit providing gainful casual employment services for consumers of mental health and related services in Winnipeg. In existence since 1991, it's services are used by home and business owners, non-profit agencies, community groups and associations. It currently has some opportunities for Board of Director volunteers, and for day time Volunteers to assist with office and project administration and supervision, as part of an organizational expansion. SSCOPE AGM Held June 20th

SSCOPE's AGM on June 20th at our offices on 1000 Notre Dame had good attendance of workers and staff. For a copy of our annual report please contact the SSCOPE office at 987-6300. New business centered around a discussion of how to create additional work and business opportunities for SSCOPE and our workers. Clayton Carriere and Ashley Gay (worker representative) were announced as the 2008-2009 Board co-chairs. The 2008 AGM's minutes are available for reading or download here
