SSCOPE has recently received a $5,000 funding award from the LITE (Local Initiatives Towards Employment) for our 2013 Employment Uplift Experience program. This program to start in April 2013, will provide wages and training funds as a pre-employment program primarily for new SSCOPE employee members.
It will be targeted to those who have been out of the work force for some time, are suffering from a mental health or related disability or issue that affects their employability, and have potential to become employees of SSCOPE’s regular employee base in our various revenue generating social enterprises.
Much of the program’s work experience will be directed through SSCOPE’s StreetSSCOPE program in which the streets and community areas around SSCOPE’s North End Winnipeg location will be tended to daily. Working in other community locations in Winnipeg that need beautification and appearance upgrades is also part of this year’s program and all requests to SSCOPE at 204 987 6300 will be considered.
Executive Director Bob Rempel said the increased funding for 2013 from LITE for the revamped program, shows the increased confidence our community funders and partners have in SSCOPE’s development plans.
As well we believe it also shows the increasing importance the community is beginning to place on addressing the growing mental health issues in our community.
It also shows that the community increasingly accepts that the unique SSCOPE model of providing gainful supported real work in a community benefical way through social enterprises it owns and operates, is a part of the solution, he said.
